“Clouds of Witness” - Dorothy L. Sayers
🔎 This is the second book in the Lord Wimsey series, and I have to say, I enjoyed it much more than its predecessor. I’m still in disbelief over how the murderer in book 1 managed the murder. The plot here is much more plausible (less suspension of disbelief required), and its a rollicking great set up for a whodunit.
🔎 “Clouds of Witness” takes place in an English country lodge, packed to the gills with guests. A death occurs on premises, on a dark and stormy night no less, and we’re off on a delicious mystery of secrets and hidden motives.
🔎 Two books in, and I am certain the Dowager Duchess of Denver is my favorite character in this series. There’s a lot of Aunt Dahliah, and a smidgen of Ariadne Oliver is this unflappable matriarch.
🔎 The other reason I enjoyed this second novel more than the first, is that it is decidedly less dialogue-heavy. Sayers adopts more of a narrative style, and I hope this continues with the rest of the series.
🔎 Up next: “Unnatural Death”
