“Whose Body?” - Dorothy L. Sayers
🔍 Dorothy L. Sayers often appears as a recommendation for fans of the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. And while this novel was perhaps not as inspired as the average Christie whodunit, it was still a fun read. I’ll be reading the next in the series.
🔍 “Whose Body?” is the first in Sayers’ famed Lord Peter Wimsey series. Lord Wimsey is an aristocratic, amateur sleuth in 1920s London, and he reminds me of a snappy Bertie Wooster but with brains. Swipe left for my favorite Wimsey quote!
🔍 Sayers writes a dialogue-heavy narrative, which is unlike Christie, from a plot development standpoint.
🔍 In this novel, Sayers wastes no time in jumping right into the action. We’ve got our titular body before we’re even two pages in, and things develop at a brisk pace thereafter.
N.B. This book was published in 1923, so as might be expected, the dialogue occasionally uses terms we’d consider racial slurs today.
