“Dial A for Aunties” - Jesse Q. Sutanto

🥟 This effervescent read was the perfect antidote to “In the Woods”. As I’m sure many others have noted, this joyride of a novel has strong “Weekend at Bernie’s” meets “Crazy Rich Asians” vibes. Sutanto gives us a thoroughly enjoyable window into Chinese-Indonesian culture.

🥟 Things I loved: the humorously contentious relationship between the four aunties, the fusing of a rom-com with a crime novel with implausible hijinks throughout, and all the many references to Chinese-Indonesian cuisine. Yum!

🥟 The resolution did feel a little slapdash; I couldn’t help feeling that the dead guy, got a pretty raw deal. But overall, this book would make perfect poolside reading material.
