“Harriet Spies Again” - Helen Ericson (based on the novel by Louise Fitzhugh)

🔍 This sequel had a mystery at its core unlike its predecessor. We enjoyed the first book because it focused on Harriet’s spying and her relationships with her friends. This one tackles a real mystery, with a slightly older and more mature Harriet.

🔍 Harriet is the same intelligent and precocious child, but this time she’s using her powers of observation and eavesdropping, to genuinely try to help someone she loves (though she tramples all personal privacy boundaries in the process). She remains the likeable middle school heroine of the first novel.

🔍 While it’s certainly not a elementary classic like the first book, this was still a fun and engaging read. It was fun to watch Harriet make discoveries from her 6th grader’s POV. Both Ashwin and Sanjay enjoyed it enough to ask to read the third installment in the series (not written by Louise Fitzhugh herself).
