“Postern of Fate” - Agatha Christie

🎠 I reread this final Tommy and Tuppence novel at some point last summer and forgot to post about it. I suppose the rush to share on IG just wasn’t there because this was a lukewarm mystery in my opinion.

🎠 Now elderly, and in search of the quiet country life, Tommy and Tuppence unsurprisingly find themselves enmeshed in a 60-year-old murder with potentially major diplomatic fall-out.

🎠 It was quite the leap (even more so than in “By the Pricking of My Thumbs”) for Tuppence to stumble upon the seemingly random underlined words in a old novel left by prior owners of their new country home, among stacks of old books and bric-a-brac. From this, it was another leap (based on Tuppence’s dogged insistence alone), to connect the words to a matter of wartime espionage and murder. I found it hard to buy in to her urgency because she really comes across as a batty old lady looking to create some excitement.

🎠 POF was certainly an enjoyable read over all, but it was definitely not my favorite Tommy and Tuppence novel. My favorites were “N or M?” and “The Secret Adversary”.
