“Birds of a Feather” - Jacqueline Winspear
(Maisie Dobbs book 2)
🪶 There are more paranormal elements in this book than in its predecessor. We know that previously, Maisie’s mentor Dr. Blanche sends her to Khan (not to be mistaken with the single-named villain of 80s Hindi movies) for training on developing her mind’s eye through meditation and mindfulness exercises. In BOAF, Maisie relies heavily on her intuition.
🪶 I’m a huge fan of WWI and WWII-era historical fiction. Winspear presents a very interesting historical basis for BOAF. No spoilers here, but the plot centers on a specific wartime movement, and explores the far-reaching effects of the movement even after the Great War has ended. Winspear also continues her exploration of the role of women in post-war society and in the workforce.
🪶 BOAF was an educational (for me) and poignant mystery. I loved it. Also, it has the best titling of a novel that I’ve seen of late.
