“Death at Victoria Dock” - Kerry Greenwood
(Phryne Fisher book 4)
🔍 After “Bury Your Dead,” I needed to find the opposite of that intense, emotional, broody mystery. I landed on a Phryne Fisher novel as the perfect antidote. Phyrne has a heart of gold and an unerring sense of justice like Gamache, but she also has a lighthearted, devil-may-care vibe which is fun to read.
🔍 In DVD, Phryne unwittingly steps into a hornet’s nest of a Latvian anarchists’ plot when she witnesses the murder of a young teen for the grave sin of being a young, boastful, idiot. She vows then and there to apprehend his killers and avenge him. She’s also called upon to investigate the disappearance of a young, godly, busybody and soon discovers all manner of dastardly goings on amongst the missing girl’s family members.
🔍 If you’re looking for a light, historical mystery that never takes itself too seriously, the Phryne Fisher books are just for you!
