“Murder Before Evensong” - Rev. Richard Coles
(Canon Clement book 1)
✂️ I loved this cozy English village mystery! Scroll down for the one-liner that convinced me to borrow MBE on the spot. Keep scrolling for the Goodreads plot summary, as well as …. a map of the parish of Champton (I love a good map!).
✂️ Canon Daniel Clement is the Rector of Champton. As such, his presence is the glue that binds together an often-bickering community. MBE opens with a frightful controversy. Canon Clement has announced a proposal to install a lavatory in the historic church. Oh, the scandal! The indignation! The self-righteous anger generated by his seemingly innocuous announcement.
✂️ Along the lines of this series, I’d recommend the Max Tudor series if you enjoy a village mystery featuring a man of the cloth acting as a detective. Which reminds me - I’ve still got to begin the Father Brown series!
✂️ In addition to being amiable, and a dab hand at crime-solving, you’ll find Canon Clement’s philosophical musings are worth mulling over.
