“The Mistress of Bhatia House” - Sujata Massey

(Perveen Mistry book 4)

🌊 There’s a lot going on in this novel: 2 mysteries, Perveen’s secret love interest, reproductive rights, and social justice issues involving the treatment of servants. And we’ve got our headstrong heroine, plunging forward in aid of others without necessarily considering all the downstream consequences of her actions. Impetuous would be an understatement. Her desire to help those who can’t advocate for themselves is matched only by her desire to tap into a potential she knows is not close to be tested in 1920s Indian society - she knows she is capable of so much more than the system allows her, and she’s determined to grab opportunities for herself.
