“Moonflower Murders” - Anthony Horowitz

(Susan Ryeland book 2)

🔑 I’ll start by saying that Susan is a very likable character because she is so relatable. She’s well over middle-aged but her personal life and career still aren’t sorted. She’s very much still figuring herself out. Or maybe the word is “evolving”? Either way, I like to see that represented in fiction. She reminds me quite a lot of Agatha Raisin for the same reasons.

🔑 MM follows the plot device of “Magpie Murders” as it involves a mystery tied to another Atticus Pünd novel. IMO this concept of a mystery within a fictional mystery, loses its luster the second time around. But, I must still give Horowitz credit for giving us 2 interesting mysteries for the price of 1!

🔑 I had 1 question though: why did Sajid Khan refer to Susan involving herself in another murder when he is the one who sent the Treherns in her direction - if not for his information, they wouldn’t have known where to find her. Why didn’t Susan pounce on this discrepancy?
