“The Last List of Mabel Beaumont” - Laura Pearson
📝 Told from the POV of an elderly widow, TLLMB captures the seismic effects of all the things left unsaid to those we love. It is also a reflection on choices made and the different iterations of lives lived as a result. On its surface, this is a novel about aging, loneliness, and finding unexpected friendship when we allow ourselves to cautiously peek around walls of our own construction.
📝 It does get a tad predictable towards the end, but Mabel is a character we want to root for, as is her unlikely gang of gal pals. I enjoyed this one, and if you did too, I’d suggest “The Reading List”, “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine”, or “The Stationery Shop” as novels you might enjoy as well.
📝 Mabel’s musings on loneliness, aging, and personal growth are one of the many highlights of TLLMB.
