“How the Light Gets In” - Louise Penny
(Gamache book 9)
🌲This was the most anticipated book in the series so far because book 8 left us with not 1 but 2 cliffhangers: 1) a deep curiosity of the fate of the Beauvoir-Gamache relationship, and 2) book 8 made it clear that although Gamache succeeded in putting 1 crooked Sûreté de Québec leader behind bars, we know there are more vipers in that particular den, and we know they are plotting something nefarious.
🌲 HLGI has it all. Relationship drama. Political intrigue. Corruption. And of course, conspiracy. I was most impressed by Penny’s ability to ratchet up the thriller adrenaline levels in this one; Gamache is typically calm and methodical but he is a man of buzzing action in this one.
🌲Friends of Three Pines, I regret to inform you that Agent Nichol emerges from the Sûreté basement where she’s been tucked away. Is it a wise move or a huge mistake? You’ll have to read to find out.
