“The Last Devil to Die” - Richard Osman
(Thursday Murder Club book 4)
🖼️ TLDD was my favorite book in this series - it was a neat and tidy mystery with a twist I did not see coming.
🖼️ I love these books as much for the mysteries as for the endearing cast of characters; by this point, we know this group is anything but an ordinary group of retirees. Elizabeth is less active in this case as she has to contend with making a decision with Stephen about his on-going care. Joyce steps up to the plate and handles hardened criminals like a boss. We also learn about Ibrahim’s lost love.
🖼️ The Stephen-Elizabeth storyline is heartbreaking as Stephen’s dementia has significantly worsened. Over the past books, Osman has developed their relationship in the distant past and the nearer past as Stephen as slowly slipped away from Elizabeth. His words powerfully capture the daily, moment-by-moment loss that each person experiences: both the dementia patient and their loved one/s. I also appreciated the loving relationship that developed between Stephen and Bogdan.
🖼️ Side note: the tv casting for TMC is phenomenal! Helen Mirren (Elizabeth), Pierce Brosnan (Ron), Ben Kingsley (Ibrahim), Jonathan Pryce (Stephen), David Tennant (Ian)….. OMG. I can’t wait to watch!!
🖼️ Second side note: my hold for Osman’s new series “We Solve Murders” finally came through, and it’s up next in my TBR.
