“A Dreadful Splendor” - B. R. Myers
🔮 The whimsical cover coupled with the initially snappy dialogue led me at first to believe ADS would be similar to “The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels”. It was not.
🔮If I had to make a comparison, it was more like a “Mexican Gothic” (but not as atmospheric) + “Jane Eyre”. And since I’m making book comparisons, I’ll also note that the interactions between Mr. Pemberton and Genevieve give strong - very strong - Mr. Darcy/Elizabeth Bennett vibes.
🔮It’s a murder mystery-romance, but not as gothic as I thought it would be. As I said, it’s light on the atmospherics.
