“Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye” - Tania del Rio

🧳Although there are monsters and creepy crawlies galore, this is not a scary story. Mystery and adventure abound in the spooky Warren Hotel, starring a tween with a heart of gold.

🧳 I’d say it’s targeted toward the late elementary crowd, but Sanjay (7th) gave it 5 stars and already put the sequel in our queue TBR. Avi (3rd) was able to follow along easily, and it introduced him to some fun vocabulary. WT13 is one of those remarkable books that bridges the age interest gap between elementary and middle schoolers.

🧳 Fast pacing contributes to WT13’s success. The plot has plenty of twists. Plus, del Rio sets the stage right away: we understand Warren’s unenviable position, the mystery involves a treasure known as the “all-seeing eye,” Aunt Anaconda is the key villain, and Warren’s main objective is saving his hotel. And we’re off!

🧳 The author delights in choosing wacky names for her characters like Isosceles and Anaconda. This resulted in fits of giggles from Avi, and even a snort or 2 from Sanjay.
