“Devil’s Breath” - G. M. Malliet

 (Max Tudor book 6)

🛥️ I think much of my love of this series stems from its setting in Nether Monkslip and its surrounding villages. The fact that much of this investigation takes place on a celebrity yacht probably contributed to it not being all that enjoyable for me. The setting was meh. I love English village mysteries. I have a very specific type.

🛥️ Due to the high seas nature of this novel, Malliet doesn’t get to do much of what she does so well - feature Father Max interacting with the denizens of Nether Monkslip. The celebrities and entitled characters onboard are all over the top caricatures and grate on the nerves. It’s like “Murder on the Nile” but bratty. You kind of want to toss them all overboard by the end.
