Review: “The Fellowship of Puzzle Makers” by Samuel Burr

🧩 High octane thriller, this is not. I enjoyed this motley set of characters - especially the timeline concerning Pippa and her ‘90s cohort. The 2016 timeline where the story shifts to Clayton’s quest is almost as beguiling.

What really gives the characters dimension is that we meet them in their golden years but we also have the privilege of knowing them in their younger years. It’s a unique chance as a reader, to form a full picture of characters in reverse order.

🧩 The single line from the book summary blurb that resulted in my adding this novel to my TBR without further consideration. Who is this guy?! What is his story?! I had to find out.

🧩 Burr’s style is evocative. Whether it’s the descriptions of the nooks and crannies of Creighton Hall or even something as ordinary as the towpath along Little Venice, Burr imbues them with an almost magical quality.
