Review: “Fudge-a-Mania” by Judy Blume

(Fudge book 3)
⚾️ Blume captures an idyllic family summer vacation in southern Maine - think: BBQ, bike rides, and ice cream - except Fudge is involved, so it’s light on the idyllic and heavy on the chaos. Adult readers are transported back to nostalgic bygone days. The magic is in the simplicity of Peter Hatcher’s POV.
⚾️ Meanwhile, kids are captivated by plot points including Peter’s first crush, a big baseball game featuring a local celebrity, a fly-swallowing adventure, and horrors of horrors, sharing a summer rental with the Cootie Queen herself. Poor Peter is quietly unraveling while everyone else is having a great time. Can he save his summer?
We read FAM when Avi was in 2nd grade.
